My teaching philosophy centers on transforming the classroom from a space of making art projects into a sanctuary for cultivating authentic artists. By prioritizing safety through social-emotional routines and consistent norms, I mitigate the emotional risks of creative expression and build a resilient peer community. I intentionally weave enjoyment into daily practices using humor, high student choice, and novel art challenges that expand students' preconceived boundaries of creativity. Ultimately, this approach fosters adolescent empowerment and ownership, providing a structured framework for creative experimentation while utilizing global art as both a window into diverse cultural competencies and a mirror that affirms each student's unique identity.
